Boy meets Girl

Androgyous styles have been hitting it big in the last year – both on the Catwalks and with Celebrities - and the newest take on the trend is to adapt it for the Summer months. Think skimpy dresses teamed with oversized boyfriend blazers or suit shorts, waistcoats and oversized shirts. The key to nailing this trend is to keep a distinct womanly twist – the clothes might be ‘male’, but the silhouette should be feminine. The best ways of doing this are by choosing high-waisted short styles that can be belted at the waist, or dresses that just skim the edge of an oversized jacket. Pair it with a cute pair of heels or mannish flats and you’re good to go. The great thing is, this trend can be used in so many ways; from a smart take on work or occasion-wear, to a new take on red-carpet glamour, a casual way to dress-down when going out, to the girly glamour of Gossip Girl’s Serena Van Der Woodsen – fashion icon and huge advocate of the boyfriend blazer.

In the Summertime

It seems like Summer has come early to England this week. The streets of Manchester are full of Summer fashion - from daring hotpant-wearers to those embracing the hippy vibe of the long length skirt. Either way, everyone is dressing for the sunshine! Here in Wanderland, we're celebrating the beautiful weather with a host of bright colours adorning our shelves. Colour is one of the huge fashion trends of the season - the S/S '11 catwalks were an optical explosion of vivid shades - and it's a great way to get into the Summer spirit!

On the catwalks of Jil Sander, the brights trend was paired with the new long length shapes, and what with all the long and mid-length skirts we have in stock at the moment, Wanderland are doing the same. Here's how we're embracing colour with a vintage twist,  the Wanderland way.

Welcome to Wanderland

Wanderland Boutique, Our new Oldham Street Shop

Welcome to the new Wanderland blog and, more importantly, to our brand new shop on Oldham Street in Manchester! After the success of our boutique in Affleck's across the road and in pop-up boutiques throughout the area, we've finally made it and got a shop of our own! Since our grand opening on March 26th , we've been getting bigger and better every day, filling our shelves with gorgeous one-off vintage finds, beautiful jewellery, handmade and reworked vintage items and lovely boutique pieces. This really is the place to come if you're a vintage lover - everything is handpicked and great quality vintage, yet at a fraction of the price other stores would charge! What are you waiting for? Rolling hills of home...

This weather makes me want to take walks in the park, crunch through the leaves and squelch in the dew covered green grass. It has to be said this time of year is beautiful; the colours are fantastic, palettes of browns and reds from the fallen leaves and the bright forest greens of the grass.

We at Wanderland are taking our inspiration from the great (and gorgeous) outdoors. Think old English countryside; rolling hills and mysterious woods. Grass greens, deep jade and dirty brown are the colours for the season. Doesn’t it make you want to put on some riding boots and go all equestrian?!

Have a look at how the designers have done it and our inspiration from the catwalks this Autumn/Winter…

Burberry Prorsum include earthly looking fabrics in moss green. The pairing with shearling jackets is just gorgeous.

Ralph Lauren feature some beautiful winter florals in floaty skirts and maxi dresses.

Both Fendi and Wunderkind perfect the vintage old English heritage feel in their collections.

Party Season!!

Whether we like it or not the dark nights are drawing in earlier and earlier... which could only mean one thing... party season is nearly upon us! Whether you love the "season to be jolly" or the prospect of a fat man in a red suit coming down your chimney doesn't fill you with festive spirit, there's no denying that it is the most glamorous time of the year!
